With climate change Teas got renewed interest and so did Maman Cochet so she's more and more available at nurseries. No other Tea rose sported so much color sports than this rose. White Maman Cochet, yellow Maman, Deep pink Maman, Red Maman... and all got climbing sports. Today only Maman itself and White Maman Cochet remain + their climbing sports. In Australia you could find some of the other sports if you're lucky but they are very rare
So what's the fuss about? Well, no other rose has such elegance and finesse than Maman Cochet. Pointed, high centered buds unfold in perfect Tea fashion and open up as full, large flowers with scrolled back petals. The color can vary quite a bit, depending on the temperature, but Maman has silvery pink to deeper pink petals with a carmine shading. Sometimes more silvery and sometimes more deeper pink. A moderate Tea fragrance is present. They are borne solitary or in small clusters. The flowers last for days even in hot temperatures.
When unfolding rain can damage them but once fully open they can withstand rain quite well. Very drought and heat resistant. Zone 7b to 11b
As a shrub Maman can reach 250 X 150 cm or 7X5 feet and the climbing sport can reach 500 cm or 15 feet easily depending on the zone you're in. Blooms in flushes throughout the season
White Maman Cochet is identical but the color is white with carmine shading and sometimes a yellow shine.
Parents were Marie Van Houtte (Tea) and Madame Lambard (Tea)
If you are in the right zones and you want that real Provence feeling? Buy Maman Cochet or her White sport. She's worth every bit of attention!
