Kaiserin Augusta Viktoria

Kaiserin Augusta Viktoria was bred by Peter Lambert in Germany in 1890. She was the result of the cross between Coquette de Lyon was crossed with Lady Mary Fitzwilliam.

Her denomination is confusing as she's labeled as a HT but also as a Tea. Because of her age, her Parentage and her features I have added her to the Tea roses.

Kaiserin Augusta Viktoria (Empress Augusta Victoria) was the wife of last emperor Wilhelm II and the last empress of Germany

Her flowers start as light green buds and they unfold into snow white perfect Tea shape blooms. The petals often retain some of the light green at the edges and this only enhances the pure white color. The flowers have a moderate Tea fragrance. Blooms in flushes throughout the season

Growth is twiggy and rather vigorous and after three years she can reach 120X100 cm or 4X3 feet. A climbing sport appeared in the early 20th century but today this sport is difficult to find.

This rose hates intense pruning. She's fairly rain resistant and can cope with heat and drought. Due to her HT mother (Lady Mary Fitzwilliam) she's more Hardy, zone 6b to 10b

Chekhov grew this rose, together with hundred of other Teas, in his white villa in Yalta (Crimea)
